I might also suggest tucking a few letters behind the big J to give the white a sense of opacity (similar to the overlap of the R)
I agree, I think rotating the letters so that less are perfectly vertical would make it more cohesive. the narrative would feel more of a thoughtful jumble
The new variations are much more concise and nice to see that you played around with the pathfinder strokes too. I’m leaning toward the stroke-only options. The only thing I might suggest with those designs is to experiment with varying values (light grays etc) and stoke weights (you can go even smaller than 1 pt)
I also like the big black S composition but perhaps you can create a tighter crop for better interplay of type with the border.
