I sampled a bunch of photos that I took at my family’s farm for this assignment. There are loads of great textures all over the place, but my favorite texture was the weathered wood on the side of the barn. The slate shingles for the barn also had a ton of great textural value. I actually used an insanely distorted version of the thread, as well as some cow fur to create the lining on the tiles, and then you can obviously see the wood behind it. My first go at the assignment resulted in the first composition of the bull skull. I love how hellish and western it looks both at once, but the problem is that there isn’t enough emphasis on texture, more on composition and the form of the skull. I opted for the slate tile roof because I like how the shadow added dimensionality. I ended up selecting the shadow and “paste into”-ing the rust texture and then blending that if that seemed a little confusing.
