My search for an ad led me to these Dove advertisements for hair care. This ad depicts famous cartoons as before and after photos for Dove hair products. This ad caught my eye for several reasons: humor, simplicity, and effortlessness. Using characters such as Marge Simpson from the TV show the Simpsons and Velma from Scooby Doo creates a sense of familiarity for the audience and immediately draws you to the ad. The ad is straightforward and does not need much explanation. There are no distractions that take away from the ad and the use of such bold colors contrasting against the white background highlights the focal point of the ad. I think what makes this such a great ad is that even if you aren’t familiar with these cartoons, even though most are, you are still able to understand the meaning behind the message.
