Design Write-up

The intention of this advertisement was for the WWF, World Wildlife Fund, to bring attention to the fragility of the earth. By using an ice cream cone to demonstrate this concept, the advertisement shows how the earth is melting, not only in the picture, but in reality.

The caption on the ad focuses in on the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, it brings attention to a major decision that is soon to be made regarding essential measures in regards to climate change. The ad serves as a warning for the people, to encourage the audience to promote decisions that are best for our planet. This figurative image directly relates to the literal state of the earth.

This ad also expresses how the effects of climate change are irreversible. Once an ice cream cone is melted, you can’t bring it back to its original form, similarly to how the effects of climate change cannot be reversed at a certain point, and many species will go extinct as a result. Furthermore, the ad presents the world, or the ice cream cone, as the main focus, because that should be the focus of everyone in humanity. The harsh reality of the ad is that it is not being dramatic.
